Krewe of Red Beans launched "Hire A Mardi Gras Artist" on december 4th - they are transforming homes in New Orleans into "House Floats"
Levy Easterly made his own house floats from 2009-2017 at his home in the French Quarter. He has since moved and bought a house in the Seventh Ward and has not built a house float until the founder of Krewe of Redbeans approached him with the idea of 5 house floats in his neighborhood, including his own. to celebrate the lives of beloved New Orleans culture figures:
Mr. Slyvester Francis, Mr. Ronald Lewis, Big Queen Kim Boutte, Collins "Coach" Lewis,
"These would be very special for the Mardi Gras Indians, my neighborhood, and the rich-in-culture community of the Seventh Ward."

The Krewe of Red Beans - has been active during COVID. First, we created "Feed the Front Line NOLA" which raised 1.2 million and helped local restaurants - by getting food to our hospital workers (my wife is an ER doc at University). We created work for 35 musicians who delivered the food for 6 weeks. We did this without spending a penny on admin + all every penny was accounted for (no waste / corruption).
we built the largest such effort in america. 6 weeks. 100,000 meals / coffees / cookies.
I also learned a lot. how to build to scale. how to make things work ect.
Next Krewe of Red Beans created "Feed the Second Line" which is an ongoing effort to buy groceries for culture-bearers (mardi gras indians, second lines, musicians, artists). www.feedthesecondline.org

Now it’s time to return the favor and help keep these workers employed during a very different type of Mardi Gras. And hopefully bring some joy and magic to the public while we’re at it.”
