The Harriet Tubman Middle School PTSA (Parent Teacher STUDENT Association) and community members are raising money too benefit the Harriet Tubman Community, and any donation will help make an impact. The goal is to raise $12,000+ to create systems that will help address inequities that affect the Harriet Tubman community in NE Portland, Oregon.
In April of 2020, the PTSA along with culturally specific community partners, and the administration at HTMS came together and brainstormed possible ideas that we could put into action - to help our HTMS families who are experiencing magnified traumatic spaces do to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Our collective passion and determination came up with an idea to produce care packages for our HTMS families. This idea was put into action in late May of 2020 and we were able to reach our families in need. The care package project was budgeted at $6000.00 and although we created something tangible and provided one solution, we understand there are more needs that need to be addressed, along with more creative solutions to address unbalances in our HTMS community.
The HTMS PTSA would like to keep the momentum going into summer, fall and beyond with potential projects in summer and in fall -this will require funding. We are collaborating with community partners and community members to create new solutions that will help our youth succeed. Our April-May care package project gave us an idea of what can be done with the resources we had. We are using this as a benchmark to move forward. Please join us, work with us and help us! This is a way community can work, together.
Thank you in advance!
Any work towards a new solution is more than what was done before - progress!
