Omar Kheil Father of two has been killed.

A young Sacramento father of two has been shot and killed in front of his young daughter.

Shajuadddin Omarkheil moved to the United States in 2018 on a Special Immigrant Visa. He travelled half way across the world with his young family to escape from war and provide his children with a safe place to call home. On Saturday morning, Omarkheil’s 4 year old daughter accompanied him on a short trip from Natomas, Ca to an Afghan Market on El Camino Avenue to buy fresh bread and rice for dinner that night. His wife remained home with their 6 month old son and waited for her husband and daughter to return.

At 3pm, a gunman entered the store where Omarkheil and his young daughter were shopping. Omarkheil was shot in the head in front of his daughter. Two other customers were also shot. Omarkheil’s wife received a call to pick up her daughter as her husband had been taken to the Emergency room, where he passed away several hours later.

This tragedy has sent shock waves through the Afghan community – a majority of which has come to the United States to escape incidents such as these. Omarkheil was an amazing father, husband and friend. His widow now finds herself alone to raise 2 children in a country she barely knows anything about with very limited language skills.

We ask for members of the community, family and friends to keep the Omarkheil family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

As a community member and close family friend, Farhad Yousafzai has organized this fundraising effort. The direct beneficiary of this fund will be Omarkheil's widow and two orphaned children. Funds collected will cover funeral expenses and financial support for the family including rent, utilities, food, clothes and educational expenses for the two young children in future. Omarkheil was the sole breadwinner for his family and it will take resources to help this family get back on their feet.
