Riding For Sarah

Sarah's Bears are at it again! We are training for our fifth Point to Point Century Ride at Mt. Ascutney in Brownsville, Vermont on August 10th. 

We are riding in memory of our dear friend, Sarah Doubleday. Sarah passed away late in the summer of 2014 from viral encephalitis.

Sarah was in the midst of training for her second marathon and had completed a number of races, even winning a road race in Providence. She was small and quick, and she never backed down from a challenge. It is with this spirit that we take on the Point To Point ride.

The money we raise will be split between the Vermont Food Bank, an organization that we know Sarah would be thrilled to support, and the Sarah Doubleday Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at her alma mater, Camden Hills High School. The recipient is one who excels both academically and athletically, and who will be attending a 4-year college. Sarah had just completed her Master’s in teaching at Brown University and was about to start her first teaching job in Bath, Maine. She had a passion for education, and we can think of no better way to honor her. 

We first met Sarah at the University of Vermont in the fall of 2006. Sarah was smart, honest, hard working, and at the same time incredibly funny and light-hearted. She made close friends everywhere she went, from her core group in Hope, Maine, to our close knit crew at UVM, down to Providence with the Brown group and other Provi besties. From Boulder to Chicago and all across the East Coast, Sarah is missed. She brought us all laughter, insight, dance parties, long talks and inspiration.
