Bringing my mother home...

My name is Shannon Dahl, the daughter of Kathleen Dahl. I am making this fundraiser in a desperate attempt to raise enough money to move her back home to North Carolina with myself, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It has taken me a week to even find the words to create this.

My mother has lived a great life in Florida the past 14 years, but has recently fallen on hard times financially. Not only is she struggling to support herself, she was diagnosed with lung cancer in March of this year. She also has COPD and emphysema with only 40% lung function. Our Dahl family as a whole has decided that it would be in her best interest to come home. Here we can take her to doctor appointments, being another set of eyes and ears at those appointments. We would also like to be able to spend whatever time she has left as a family.

We want to be able to offer support, the kind that we cannot provide states away. With this fundraiser, we will be renting a Uhaul, buying gas to move her and whatever is left she will need until she finds employment once she gets settled. She will also have to register her vehicle here and get a North Carolina license. This move is not going to be cheap or affordable for any of us, and we don't know how else we can make it happen.

I know there are other costs that I haven't even mentioned, nor considered, but this will be a start and a tremendous help. She is only 64 years young, and this news has devastated our entire family. She has decided against any treatment. She needs to be home to live the rest of her life with us. I am her only child with her only grandchildren here.
