Hurricane Beryl: Carriacou family appeal
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Steve Caton. As many of you know our family's island has been ravaged by Hurricane Beryl: almost every building has been destroyed or left uninhabitable. I was visiting my 85-year-old dad, Amelius, when Beryl struck and experienced the might and ferocity of the hurricane over several hours. We feared for our lives as the house was torn apart around us. Despite this terrifying experience I am so glad that we were there to help, console and protect Dad.
Carriacou is the island of my forebears. My parents’ and other relatives’ only inheritance was land. Thirty years ago, my parents built a beautiful home to retire to in the village of Harvey Vale.
Beryl’s path of destruction hit Harvey Vale full on and has left the house a wreck, the roof destroyed, the house flooded and most of his belongings either smashed or scattered by the wind. Dad is devastated, suffering irreplaceable losses. More immediately he is without basic necessities.
We are heartbroken for dad and desperate for him to get his homes back and his life on the island restored. Hurricane insurance cover on Carriacou was not an option. We need to raise immediate funds to make his house safe and secure and then to start the rebuilds.
We would be so grateful for any donation as it is impossible to do this on our own. This beautiful island, with a rich history, warm friendly, talented and hard working people urgently need our help.
Thank you so much for your support.
Steve, on behalf of Molly, Dawn, Susan and Diane xxx
