Hurricane Michael has left behind mass amounts of destruction and had tragic impacts on thousands of lives. This is just one of the stories of lives that have been turned upside down with local ties
This page is to help the Smith/Renstrom family who have lost everything in the wake of the Hurricane. Up until last week, Edward and Kaleo lived in Panama City with their 12 month old daughter Aulani. While they are all safe, their home was completely destroyed along with their cars and all of their personal belongings. Kaleo is also pregnant and they are expecting their 2nd child in January.
Kaleo was born and raised in Bend, OR and graduated from Mtn. View. Her parents have been pillars of the Central Oregon community for over 30 years. Her mom has been a local PE teacher at Juniper Elementary for 20+ yrs. Kaleo and Ed have decided to start over in Bend and create new roots. Luckily, Kaleo is a Respiratory Therapist and has already procured a job with St. Charles. While Mom and Daughter are back in Bend preparing to start over, Edward and their dog, Blu are still in Florida. Edward works for the city and is assisting in cleanup and emergency services for the time being.
While they did have homeowners and car insurance, the timeline for FEMA and Insurance Claims is not immediate. It will be months before they see any assistance. They are in need of help now. They have nothing and will need to reacquire all basic necessities and begin to rebuild. Every little bit helps. They are blessed to have the support of their families and have lodging with her parents until they find a place to live in Bend. They will need clothes, furniture, kitchen necessities, everything for a nursery, clothes for them all, Aulani and the baby. And necessities for their dog. Gift Cards and Cash will be the biggest help. Basic hotel rooms back in Florida are costing Ed over $250 per night where he will need to stay for the time being.
