Jess's fund for Sarcoma Research
My name is Jess, im 35 from SA, a wife and a mum to Declan 5 and Maddi 4. I also have cancer. It's rare, like really rare, and I am incurable. I have a form of SARCOMA.
Sarcoma cancer has over 50 subtypes and accounts for less than 1% of adult cancers diagnosed. I am incurable largely to the fact there is a significant shortage in funding for sarcoma.
Before I was diagnosed I'd never heard the word sarcoma and I'd worked In the medical environment my entire working life, as a nurse and as a practice manager. Unfortunately this is a common trend, many of my family and friends had never heard the word SARCOMA before.
July is Sarcoma awareness month and it frustrates me so much that this disease is so unrecognised throughout our community
Last March my three incredible sisters along with their partners and with the generosity of many south Australian businesses held a fund-raiser for myself, my husband and our children.
This July I am hoping to raise awareness around Sarcoma and money for two organisations that have been instrumental in my care and the care of many others like me.
The Australian New Zealand Sarcoma Association and the Cooper Rice-Brading Foundation. Im reaching out to you, the public, today as I am hoping you can help me spread the word.
I'm at a point in my diagnosis were im well enough to hopefully give back and help others who are struggling. I have been overwhelmed by the amount of children, mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters both young and old, That have lost their life to Sarcoma. Largely to it being a rare condition and late diagnosis.
I consider myself so lucky, I really am only still alive as my tumor was detected by accident in the early stages.
Sarcoma doesn't respond to traditional cancer treatments, and its metastatic rate is high. This July i hope to raise as much money as possible to help these organisations fund their research projects and support those struggling with Sarcoma.
The Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA) is the peak body for sarcoma research, education and awareness; and dedicates 100% of its donations to high-quality sarcoma research and clinical trials to save and improve lives.
Please join me in making a difference by supporting a good cause! I'm raising money for AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND SARCOMA ASSOCIATION LIMITED and any donation will help make a difference. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause which means so much to me.
