Help bring Mike home!

As some of you know, on July 25, my Dad, Michael Powell suffered a severe stroke while on a camping trip in South Dakota. He has been battling in the ICU at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital ever since. My mother, Reita Powell, has been at his side every day. Finally, after five weeks, he is stable and healthy enough to be transferred to a neural rehab facility closer to home. On Thursday morning, Mike will travel by medical transport from the hospital in South Dakota to Hackensack Meridian Health's Comprehensive Stroke Center in Edison, NJ, at a cost of $25,000, not covered by insurance.
Throughout this ordeal, so many friends, colleagues, students, and well-wishers have reached out to ask how you can help. If we can help my parents get this cost covered, it would mean so much to all of us.
It is very likely that this is only the beginning of the support my parents will need. We do not know how long Mike's recovery process will be, or what level of ability he will return to. But after more than a month, getting Mike (and my Mom!) home is the first step in the right direction.
Thank you so much for your love and support! Please visit us at https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/michaelpowell for news and updates about Mike's recovery.
