Proton Therapy

On March 31 I was diagnosed with what was then thought to be Stage 1 but after surgery ended up being Stage 3 Oral Tongue Cancer.  I had surgery to remove the cancer from a portion of my tongue as well as the lymph nodes from the ride side of my upper neck.  After Surgery I was to under-go Proton Radiation therapy.  Proton Therapy is the most precise version of radiation for cancer and carries the least amount of side effects for head and neck cancers like mine.  The big risk with radiation is the surrounding healthy tissues and the long term physical effects.  Proton therapy delivers radiation in a precise way with minimal damage to the surrounding areas.  This gave me the best chance at not having long term side effects including difficulty swallowing, hypothyroidism, dry mouth and loss of taste.  After 5 different appeals with my insurance company, my insurance denied my treatment.  My doctor wrote in medical letters of necessity as well as I wrote in pleading with the insurance company to approve my treatment not only because it was imperative to give me the best shot at a recurrence free survival, but also so I could maintain a good quality of life and to continue being able to perform in my current profession.  After the denial I had to borrow money from my family to be able to pay out of pocket for my entire radiation treatment.  This go fund me is to cover those medical bills and hopefully help recoup some of those costs so that I can pay my family back to reduce the financial burden that should have been on the insurance company.  Its very hard for me to ask for help, and I would never want someone else to put themselves at a hardship for doing so.  If you have some bucks to spare I could use some help.
