Our 11 year old niece, Lizzy, hadn’t been feeling well in Sept. 2021. She first battled Covid-19. After a week or so, she recovered, but then intense headaches, vomiting, and fatigue appeared. At first the theory was "It’s the remnants of Covid" and treat with over the counter medicine. After a day, the headaches were so severe, Lizzy was rushed to the Emergency Room at Childrens in Omaha. After a few tests and then a quick MRI, the cause appeared (see below): a baseball size tumor.
The surgical team at Childrens was confident their approach was sound, but extremely difficult (a 10 out of 10). The morning after the tumor was discovered, Lizzy had major brain surgery (Sept. 24th, 2021).
Success!! Over 90% of the tumor was removed. God bless the Childrens (Omaha) surgical team!!. The tumor tissue was sent to pathology for diagnosis. Then the other shoe dropped. Lizzy's tumor was diagnosed on 10/05/21 as a Diffused Midline Glioma. The treatment is multiple weeks of radiation. Phase 1 trials throughout the country offer opportunities and positive results.
Now, Lizzy has to be her own hero. Her family needs your help, both emotionally and financially. We are raising funds to help with the medical bills, travel expenses to locations holding trials, tutoring, unpaid family medical leave, therapy, and to Lizzy's future health and wellness needs. Will you help? Thank you for reading this. Please pray for the Swoboda family and thank you for your support!
