Hi I’m Michelle, most people call me Shell. I’ve been disabled since 2012 and only get around $400 a month from social security. For 11 years my husband was employed at a job he loved
however on March 26,2021 he was taken off
work due to illness. At that point he was put
on EDD SDI and we were fine financially
however the doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him. He remained extremely
sick for months on end with no answer in sight. In August of 2021 his employer of 11 years
decided they were going to fire him due to
being sick for so long. We appealed the
decision twice but on September 15, 2021 it
was official, he no longer had a job.
Fortunately he was still receiving EDD SDI so we were okay financially to a point of just
making it. Still no diagnosis from doctors until on November 9, 2021 I had to rush him to the
emergency room and within hours he was
rushed into surgery and almost died.
Thankfully he survived and as of February 1, 2022 he was released to work but with no job to return to. He then tried applying for
unemployment while he looked for a job but
someone at the unemployment office screwed up and put that he wasn’t released to work so he was denied. He has appealed their decision but it has been 5 months since he has had any income at all. We’ve borrowed money from
our families to get by but that is no longer an option. Good news is he has finally found a job and will start soon however we are so behind
on bills and with only my income he won’t
even have gas to get to his new job and our utilities are likely to be shut off before his first paycheck or before unemployment fixes the issue and gets him the money he is owed. I don’t like asking for help and I know he is to humble to ask himself but I don’t know what to do. Last
Tuesday I had my 7th surgery on my left knee
and am currently in a wheelchair, needing to
pay for medical bills and materials to build a
ramp so I can get to doctors appointments. I
still need another surgery after this one so
likely will be in the chair for awhile. The list of problems just goes on and on to a point I’m
very worried about the next few months. Again I don’t want to do this but I don’t know what
else to do. I doubt I will get any responses but
if you have anything extra that you could
spare it would be greatly appreciated. I’m a
pay it forward kind of person and try to help
other’s when they are in need, and will
continue to do so once we are back on our
feet. My husband starts work Tuesday after 16+ months of no work, but we are so far behind…
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Sincerely,
Shell
Also I know this is in the category of monthly bills but it’s also for gas, medications and food.
