Terri was diagnosed with colon cancer in July. We all know that she has the most loving heart, caring spirit, and such an optimistic outlook on life- which is no surprise that she has remained positive throughout all of this.

Terri had surgery to remove the cancerous tumor on August 14th. She began her first round of chemotherapy on October 2nd, with her partner Jack (of nearly a decade) by her side. Unfortunately, Jack unexpectedly passed away on October 15th, just as Terri was beginning to really experience some horrible side effects from the chemotherapy. She mustered everything she possibly could to give the most beautiful eulogy at Jack's funeral. This was in the midst of what we would later find out to be the beginning stages of what her doctor described to be the worst chemo overdose she's seen in 27 years of practice. She had her second chemo infusion on Oct 23. Tiff went with her to this appointment and this second infusion really took a toll on her. In addition to the chemo infusions, she also was taking pills. Her third (and final) infusion was scheduled for Nov 13, but of course we did not do that one because she is suffering from "chemo overdose" from what she's already had. She had 21 rounds on chemo (with infusions and pills). Would have had 45 total if she continued on with what they'd planned. We still can't believe all of this happened from the chemotherapy. We are praying the cancer is gone. She will be able to do a scan soon to see if all the cancer is gone. One doctor told Tiff that Terri NEVER should have continued with the second round of chemo because her body was showing signs of distress (blisters, vomiting). It's tough when two different doctors tell you two different things-after the fact, at that. But, we will remain optimistic that the cancer is gone. We will know soon.

She is currently at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, and has been there since Friday, November 3rd. She is battling stage 4 skin toxicity, due to the chemo drugs severely burning her hands, feet, and mouth. This is causing excruciating pain. Moreover, her white blood cell count had dropped to 0, which virtually gave her no ability to overcome any infection or illness. They began giving her a nutrition bag through an IV, as well as medication to help try to raise her WBC. She's lost over 40 pounds since her diagnosis, and her body is incredibly weak. It is difficult for her to talk. She cannot use her hands. She cannot stand independently. She is trying to drink nutrition shakes and slowly be reintroduced to solid foods, but it is very difficult to eat/drink/keep anything down. She is trying her best to do everything she can to get better but we know this is going to be a slow road to recovery.

Thankfully, her white blood cell count has improved, and we are optimistic that her entire body will completely recover. She is beginning physical and occupational therapy at the hospital, and has even started doing little walks around the hospital halls. We are taking everything one day at a time right now. We are very grateful for all the prayers, love, and support throughout this difficult time. Thank you.
