Sean’s Recovery
Donation protected
Hello everyone!
I am Samantha Skowron and I am Sean O'Hara's step daughter. As most of you know, Sean has been through a lot in the past 2 weeks. His medical story began at the start of December 2018 and will continue for the rest of his life. I have set up this Go Fund Me page to help my parents out with their quickly growing medical expenses since they will be going from a two parent income to only one income.
Sean was experience pain and sudden weight loss which wasn't unnoticed from family and friends. After many weeks of tests, CAT scan and Laparoscopic surgery we fond out that Sean has a Differential Carcinoid Tumor in the middle of his small bowel. The tumor was about 2" and probably has been there close to 10 years. The treatments we started him on was just a shot once a month for the rest of his life which was suppose to shrink the tumor and keep it from growing.
Unfortunately, a few months later around April Sean was still having pains and weight loss. We decided to take him to a specialist at UPMC in Pittsburgh. Our next step was a surgery on April 29th where we had tumors removed from his small bowel and liver, spots were removed from the outside of his liver, abdomen, and large bowel. He also had his gallbladder removed and a reconstruction of his small bowel. That surgery was on Monday April 29th where we had a 5 day recovery time.
On that 5th day Sean was experiencing pains so bad, he was nauseous and just not feeling well. The next day after many tests, an emergency surgery was set to see what had gone wrong. Sean was experiencing pain because of gasses that flowed into his abdomen which could of been extremely dangerous if we did not catch it in time. There was also a small 2mm section of the bowel that has not recovered from the original surgery which caused him to have a temporary Ileostomy bag for 6-8 weeks.
Once that 2mm section is healed, there will be another surgery to reverse the Ileostomy bag. The recovery time is 5-7 days in the hospital and 6-8 weeks of no work again. His current diet with this Ileostomy bag is a GI Soft Diet which thankfully he is adapting too. After being in the hospital for 2 weeks from the first surgery which was suppose to be only 5 days, his recovery time has taken a 360 and will be longer than expected.
Sean will currently be out of work until (praying) mid September/October which causes us to be a one income family. With more unexpected hospital bills and 2 unplanned surgeries, we are not sure how we will handle this. Besides me, Sean has another daughter named Emily who is 13. I like to help as much as I can, but I am currently in college at Kent State and will be going out of the country for the month of June to study for my major.
All we ask is for prayers for Sean to have a speedy and healthy recovery. I thank every single one of you in advance for all the donations, support, prayers and sharing of Sean's story. Sadly, this is not the first time we have dealt with a major health issue in our family. I was in Sean's shoes 7 years ago when I battled cancer myself. I am thankful that I can be by his side and let him know that things will get better, but we need the support. All of the donations will go towards his medication and help paying for hospital bills that are adding up very, very quickly.
I cannot thank everyone enough for even reading Sean's story. Thank you also for all the support, donations, and prayers.
