Budding Roses Summer Camp
Donation protected
After a successful two summers, we are so excited to announce the third year of Budding Roses Summer Camp in summer 2019! In order to make it as fun and successful as possible, we need your help! (Note: All donations before Aug '18 were for our 2018 summer camp!)
Our first two summers of Budding Roses would not have happened without your support, and that is the case this summer as well. Donations to our campaign will help us to keep our camp free and accessible for all youth, in addition to helping us provide hot meals, back-to-school supplies, and more. This year we also have the goal of providing small stipends to our organizers and counselors to compensate them for their time and hard work. We are on track to have more participants than ever this summer, and we need to increase our funding if we want to provide a quality level of resources and programming for all campers.
Who are we?
Budding Roses is a free social justice summer camp held in East Portland for youth entering 4th-9th grade. This two-week day camp provides workshops and discussions on social justice issues, arts projects, and outdoor recreation. We serve breakfast and lunch each day, and provide back-to-school supplies for each camper. Budding Roses is run by a volunteer collective of educators, activists, and students from the community.
Camp Philosophy:
We strive to provide a free, safe and encouraging space for East Portland youth to learn, express themselves, and engage critically with the issues of social justice that they encounter as members of our community. We strive to help them cultivate the necessary tools to be active community members through experiences of collective decision-making and democratic education.
Daily Activities:
Include a combination of community building activities, discussions on social justice topics, interactive workshops, movies, arts, games, and free time. Workshops and discussions are often led in collaboration with local activists and community organizations. In the past, we have worked with the Burgerville Workers Union, Critical Resistance PDX, the Transformative Lenses Collective, DUG (Deep Underground), and TALON.
