Codie Shaw - 3 Peaks Walk - Fundraising for AAFDA

Hi everyone for those of you who know me.. great! For those of you that don’t know me, I am Codie Shaw.

On October 27th 2022 I will be walking the Yorkshire 3 peaks in memory of my mum and other women who have died due to domestic violence.

In October last year mine and my families heart was shattered into pieces when we received the news that our beloved Dawn Walker had been killed. Dawn was a beautiful soul, who would do anything for anybody. She would give you her last bit of money even if she was struggling herself. She was selfless, she was funny and she was kind. Dawn was a Mother, Daughter, Nanna, Sister, Auntie and friend. But unfortunately a monster took her life from her after he had subjected her to years of abuse, both physically and mentally. She wasn’t the same person when she was with him. She was controlled, she was hurt, she was made to believe that the only person she needed was him. Domestic violence happens to women and men all over the Uk on a daily basis and it is STILL a taboo subject which no one wants to talk about!

I am raising money for AAFDA ( Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse).

A Little bit about them …

AAFDA has over a decade of experience advocating for families after the homicide, suicide or unexplained death of their family member or friend, following domestic abuse. AAFDA was established in 2008 by Frank Mullane in memory of his sister Julia Pemberton and her son Will, whose murders in 2003 resulted in the pilot Domestic Homicide Review being conducted. Domestic Homicide Reviews later became law in 2011.

Aafda has helped our family so much, through what has been the worst time of our lives. Our Advocate has been been like a ray of sunshine when our days were dark. She was with us both in person and the other end of the phone, whilst we went through the trial. I would love for them to be able to help more families in the Uk which I why I will be fundraising as much money as possible.
