De Anza High Schools Asian Student Union is hosting our third annual Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Graduation Sash Ceremony.
Asian Student Union student officers and members inaugurated the first graduation sash ceremony representing AANHPI identifying seniors in May 2019 being the first in the entire West Contra Costa Unified School District to do so. All funds to cover our senior sashes have been fundraised through restaurants, 'First Fridays', and other school activities—NOT by the school or district. Amidst the pandemic, we have been limited to profit from our usual affairs; even the Class of 2021 graduation is up in the air.
However, Asian Student Union wishes to continue our newfound tradition by providing the underrepresented, minority AANHPI students of De Anza High Schools Class of 2021 with a graduation sash by May 31st. Especially with the increase of AANHPI hate, we find it more difficult to not celebrate and empower our seniors. There are over 40 students wishing to receive a sash this year, but not enough funds to cover everyone. Our Asian Student Union officers and advisors would appreciate any donations or shares, nonetheless, thank you for your consideration!
