Never in a million years do you want to see the people you love go through the "C word", especially at only 40 years old. Aaron was diagnosed with Small Cell Carcinoma of the bladder in October, which is the rarest and most aggressive form of bladder cancer. The cancer has metastasized to other major organs making it Stage 4.
If you know Aaron, you know he is a ray of sunshine, filled with life, light, and kindness. When he enters a room with complete strangers, they all love him by the time he leaves. He has a way of making all around him feel special with his compassion, love, and sense of humor.
The news of his diagnosis was hard to comprehend for everyone but most of all Aaron. The uncertainty of the prognosis and knowing that he is in a fight for his life is consuming and overwhelming. He has taken each step in stride and risen to every challenge with a smile, accompanied by his infectious personality.
To date Aaron has completed 6 rounds of chemo and in March Aaron underwent surgery to remove the tumor on his liver as the first step before his oncology team is able to remove the cancer in the bladder. During the surgery Doctor's removed 60% of his liver. This intense surgery required much rest and recovery over the last few months. Only a few weeks into his recovery, Aaron suffered the huge loss of his father, one of his closest friends. Although Aaron has struggled, he has remained hopeful, positive, and doing this all while asking for little help just some kindness and words of support.
Aaron’s health has declined over the last couple of weeks, still with intense treatment ahead. He has been hit with yet another challenge. He went to the hospital Monday due to loss of feeling in his left leg and arm where he underwent multiple scans. A 4.4cm tumor was found in his brain. Aaron was rushed to Vermont for further diagnostics and treatment. Aaron will under go a craniotomy within the next week to stop the bleeding and remove the tumor from his brain. The road ahead is uncertain, however Aaron is ready for the fight and with great risk, taking the most aggressive path to remove the cancer from his body.
We write this asking for your help and support. The medical bills, travel expenses, and unknowns continue to pile up. We want to ensure that Aaron is able to focus on his healing and provide him with the support to do everything necessary to cure him of this aggressive disease. Let’s help to bring him comfort during this incredibly challenging time. Aaron would never ask himself, but he would do it for anyone, a loved one or a stranger. Please share this, as we all come together to support our beloved friend, son, brother, cousin and this incredible human through his journey. #belikeaaron
