My husband, Aaron Fleming, a University of Colorado Sigma Nu alumni, unexpectedly passed away on April 21, 2020 due to a sudden heart arrhythmia caused by Sarcoidosis.. We have two children, Maddie (age 12) and Austin (age 10), who were the center of Aaron’s world. After Aaron’s passing, we also adopted a Labrador Retriever that we affectionately named “Neville”, Aaron’s fraternity nickname.
As a freshman at CU in 1994, Aaron was happy to follow in his father’s footsteps to become a Sigma Nu. The fraternity was the foundation of his college experience that led to lifelong friendships. When he later reflected on his time as a in the fraternity, he was proud of the inclusivity of the house, and he described a wonderful and diverse group of guys that often broke the traditional fraternity stereotype.
Aaron would talk about how being part of Sigma Nu helped him to break out of his shell and truly reveal his outgoing nature – an attribute that would serve him well in his life and career. Over the years, our family would always drive by the Sigma Nu house when in Boulder, and Aaron would proudly point out the window to his room to our kids – one in the front that let out to the outdoor deck.
At Homecoming in September 2019, he was thrilled to give our son a tour of the house and take him out on that deck. Forever a Buff, he was also thrilled later that day when we went on to beat the Huskers in overtime.
Our family would be so honored to commemorate Aaron’s legacy with a plaque and scholarship each semester for a brother at the fraternity, we are so grateful for your donations to help make this happen.
