Aaron Flynn and family support

Donation protected
Aaron was diagnosed a few days after birth with ARPKD, a rare recessive genetic disorder that causes cystic kidneys and little to no function. Auto Recessive Polycystic Kidney Disease is so rare it affects 1:20,000 born and can cause death in the first month of life. Aaron was born with end stage kidney failure, extremely underdeveloped lungs, and hypertension. His kidneys were comparable to teenage sized kidneys. The toughest is day was the afternoon following birth, when he began to crash. By the grace of God, power of prayer for his strength, medical treatment, and doctors, Aaron was gifted a second chance. Not even two weeks old, he had both diseased kidneys removed, began his dialysis journey and the up and downs that come with prematurity. He has grown so strong and has begun to breathe on his own without the assistance of an oxygen tank. His hypertension has resolved itself and after five surgeries/procedures is on a path to going home.

Although Aaron looks healthier, bigger and bright eyed , he has a long journey ahead of him. The following years will be full of obstacles as he continues to grow but may face needing support via growth hormones, has a compromised immune system, will continue daily dialysis to remove toxins, will be fed via g-tube but will continue to practice feeding by mouth, and all in preparation of a kidney transplant. With all of this in mind, his family has downgraded to a one income household. Aaron Sr. and Krystal have spent countless hours at the hospital learning how to care for Little Aaron but Momma will be his primary care provider when he heads home. Little Aaron’s immune system is not ready to encounter all of the common/not so malignant to the most malignant germs in daycare settings. He also requires individual attention when it comes to caring for his catheters, mixing and delivering feedings, medication administration, working on his developmental abilities and frequent appointments with specialists in Portland.

After being home for 2.5 weeks, Aaron suffered a stroke and a cluster of seizures. Within two days of being admitted into the PICU, MRI showed a total of three areas of stroke. He continued to have sub clinical seizures for days that were only detected by EEG. The neurology team has been able to manage the the seizures with medications. This new set of medical complications has all of his providers baffled as they can not figured out why the stroke happened. They have ruled out infections, clots, and hemorrhages. Results for more genetic testing will be available in a few weeks.

The family is heartbroken to see Little Aaron fighting for his life again. He continues to stay strong and defeat all odds.

The entire Flynn and Garduno family appreciates all of the prayers, hopeful encouragements, gifts and donations made to help assistant the family during this difficult time.
