Aaron attempted suicide on May 25th, 2023. 6 days later, on May 31st, Aaron died in the Neuro Critical Care unit at Maine Medical Center. Aaron was 24 years old.
Those are the details of the end of Aaron’s life. However, Aaron was so much more than the circumstances of his passing. In the 24 years he walked with us on earth, he was many things to many people.
A writer, a gardener, a musician, a philosopher. A chess player. A lover of fantasy games and realms unknown. A dreamer with a brilliant mind. He loved words, math, music, science, ethics, and topics of technology. He had diverse intellectual interests in many fields and he was always in the pursuit of knowledge. Books held a particularly important space in his life. He loved nature and found solace walking in the forest.
He was our brother, son, nephew, and friend. Thoughtful, caring, gentle with sharp wit and sarcastic sense of humor. He was gifted, and curious. He was kind, and good. He was truly one of a kind.
While Aaron lives on in all of his loved ones, we want his influence to go further. One of the goals Aaron had for himself was to do something that helped others, something that mattered.
Aaron's family is establishing the Aaron N Nolan Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor Aaron’s memory. All proceeds raised will go directly towards the scholarship that will be granted to a senior at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School each year. The continual pursuit of knowledge and finding the answers to the big questions of life were central to Aaron’s life. The scholarship will continue that legacy of learning by supporting a student pursuing higher education or entrepreneurship. While Aaron suffered for many years, struggling with his mental health, he also overcame countless obstacles to accomplish so much. Thus, the scholarship recipient will be nominated by the teachers of OHCHS based on the criteria of overcoming adversity.
All funds donated through this page will go directly to the scholarship fund. From our whole family, thank you SO much for helping Aaron's legacy of learning continue and supporting other young people to reach their potential.
