Abandoned Animal rescue and rehabilitation
Donation protected
Got a terrible call from a friend on Friday who noticed an abandoned squatters camp in the desert. Amongst the dead generators and wind torn tents was an emancipated horse and donkey, the donkey was tangled in wire and terribly cut up, the horse hours from collapse, and 4 dogs. One with 15 puppies, hidden under a cot in a hot abandoned leanto full of hoarders garbage. Puppies are less than a day old as the friend who saw the place yesterday said they weren’t there the night before . Loaded them all up and brought them here. I can’t imagine the desperation that would lead someone to abandon starving animals to fend for themselves in the desert. It was 103 degrees outside that day.
That is to say we currently have NINETEEN additional dogs until we sort this out. The horse and donkey we are taking in and rehabilitating. But the Mama, pups and others need homes. Can’t take them to animal control because they’d probably euthanize. Small town. No money. The larger ones we’ll be able to find homes for soon I hope. Though the skinniest one, truly hide and bones, was so grateful he leapt into my arms and wouldn’t let go. Don’t think I’ll let him go either. All this is to say we will be looking for homes for the others. If anyone has room in their life for a sweet dog who will truly be grateful for your friendship, message me.
In the meantime we are raising money to cover feed and veterinary costs. We want to have the older dogs fixed before adoption, and the mama and the babies will stay here until they are old enough to adopt in 8 weeks, at which point they will all need shots. We have the space, and courtesy of the strike in Hollywood, we have the time. But 21 new animals on the feed bill is a hit,
wasn’t going to set up this account but enough of you have asked, so I have.
Any funds leftover will be donated to Zeus’ Place, a wonderful shelter where we’ve adopted from in the past,
many thanks to you all
