Abandoned Hunting Dog Needs Amputation & More.

Donation protected
Hello, yesterday afternoon this stray hunting dog wandered into our lives. I immediately realized its back rear leg was badly broken and it was emaciated and full of fleas, I called the numbers on the tag but couldn't find an owner as the tags weren't associated with this dog or those people on the collar. I posted her images up on a dog hunting Facebook group and within an hour someone tagged the owner and I was able to find their address via his FB page, he lives about 2 miles from me as the crow flies. I sent the friend a private message and told them to have the owner message me ASAP. He said he had spoken to them about the dog and he should be contacting me. I never heard back and it turns out the dog got out of the pen on Jan 1st 2022 so he had possession of the dog days before she arrived in this condition. I suspect that once she was no longer able to hunt after being struck by a car she was considered not worth feeding and allowed to starve. Animal control won't get involved unless I turn the dog over which would be a death sentence as they said they don't have the funds to treat her after the fact. I feel she has came too far to be put down now so today I carried her to a Veterinarian for 4.5 hrs and got a diagnosis. She currently suffers from two broken legs both on her right side, heartworms, an ear infection, fleas the emaciation and she will ultimately require an amputation of the right rear limb. Today's bill alone was $677.31 & the total costs for amputation and heartworm treatment are estimated to be around $3000 plus whatever other costs that will incur after the surgery. They want to put some weight on her before surgery in a month. So if you are able & inclined to help this poor soul have a second chance at life I'm certain she would greatly appreciate it. I have been blown away by the response from people wanting to help her already so Thank You for whatever you can contribute. Dr. O'Neal at Dogwood Animal Hospital will be handling the treatment of this yet to be named Girl. She will be in a forever home with us as well once treatment is completed. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
