Abandoned Rabbits Need Veterinary Care

11/27/2023 Update: Using the funds raised thru this account, Oreo, the male, was neutered but not before Butterscotch got pregnant! Sadly, the three kits did not survive. We are waiting for more funds to get Butterscotch spayed which may not be for a few months.

They are both doing well though and are not happy being separated at this time. They sit side by side with the wire kennel panel between them. They are sweet rabbits and when I enter the aviary, they get on their back legs and twitch their noses searching for any yummy treats hidden in my pockets - usually bits of carrots or apples. I'm socializing with them as much as possible.

In September 2023, two rabbits began hanging around our house and neighboring houses. They weren't skittish and came up when there were banana or carrots offered. Upon asking around, we found out that they were abandoned by their owners who no longer wanted to care for them. They are a bonded couple and are not fixed.

As a fellow rabbit owner, I know that these rabbits will not survive out on the streets for very long. There is a deadly virus RHDV (rabbit hemorrhagic disease) that is extremely contagious and once exposed, rabbits will die within 12-36 hours of exposure. Also, since they are not fixed, they will contribute to the stray rabbit population in my area.

My goal is to get them health checked and then fixed so that I can eventually rehome them. I can't rescue all the rabbits but I can make a difference for this bonded pair.

The fundraiser is to help towards the cost of spay/neuter and food supplies. I've named the brown and beige (doe) Butterscotch and the white and gray (buck) Oreo.

The cost to get them fixed will be approximately $400 each not including medications and follow-up appointments.

Please help me get them in good health and rehomed!
