Abbi needs a ramp and a van
Donation protected
My name is Matt Baker. My home, family and community is in Springfield MO. My self, my wife and our 4 kids live in mid town. The young lady pictured above is Abbigail Rose, and she is my half sister. I met her about sixteen years ago when I looked up my biological father. Abbi was born with cerebral palsy and is quadriplegic and non verbal. Our biological father died about 4 years after I met them, leaving Abbi in the guardianship of our step-mother. Where she has stayed and thrived the past twelve years.
Our step mother is aging and is no longer physically or financially capable of managing Abbigail's daily needs. We believe the best outcome for Abbi is if I assume Abbigail's guardianship. I have already initiated the paperwork for that, and hope to have it resolved before years end. That doesn't necessarily mean Abbs will stay with us in our home, but she will be visiting much MUCH more often. And of course if needs must and we're unable to find adequate facilities, the possibility of her coming to stay with us exists. Which brings us to the goal of this fundraiser.
The way I see it our immediate household needs are, in this order:
-A ramp (36' long)
-A reliable van with a lift for us to transport Abbi in (Abbi owns a van, but it's old and in ill repair.)
-Ultimately a bathroom remodel on our first floor to install a shower that can accommodate Abbi's needs so that she can come home with us for long weekends and holidays, but that is not nearly as immediate as the ramp and then a van.
We would love to have the ramp done and a good head start on the van ahead of the transition to ensure maximum comfort and safety for Abbigail.
So if you can afford to carve out a small donation for our family this holiday season, our gratitude would be endless. If we are so blessed to meet our goal, anything raised above it will be used in pursuit of the greatest outcome for Abbigail. Thank you sincerely and deeply for taking the time to read and share!
