Healing for Hannah (Hannah Abbott Fund)

Donation protected
Meet sweet baby Hannah Jane, born July 12, 2020, child of God, sister, niece, cousin, grandchild, and great-grandchild. Her arrival created a family of five, including a big sister who calls her “my Hannah” and a big brother who calls her “Jane”, just like Daddy does. Hannah’s eyes had recently started drifting downward. Despite being alert, eating, smiling, and laughing, it was cause for concern.  On Halloween, she was dressed as an owl, but we soon learned she is a real-life warrior at 4 months old!

On November 4th, an MRI showed a very large 5 x 7 cm cerebellar mass. (Near the brainstem, the cerebellum manages/regulates/coordinates movement.) Hannah was diagnosed with pediatric medulloblastoma, an extremely rare brain tumor (~250-500 children per year are diagnosed). If it is treatable, it is very difficult, responding only to a combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy (and radiation therapy is not an option for a baby so young).

Among multiple procedures so far, the most serious was neurosurgery which successfully removed more than 90% of the tumor. Thankfully, the type Hannah has is associated with a better outcome, although Hannah remains in a high-risk category.

Hannah was recommended to St. Jude’s, known for treating the toughest childhood cancers, where she will undergo up to a year of treatment, including more surgeries and chemotherapy. The Abbotts hope is to be back home by Christmas of 2021.

Due to COVID, the typically free St. Jude’s restricts free housing to only parents and the child receiving treatment. Mike and Elizabeth will secure ‘off-campus’ housing in early December so they may bring their other two children to Memphis for the next year. Your generous donations to the Hannah Abbott Fund will go towards immediate and ongoing necessities: Rent, utilities, and basic furnishings so they may make Memphis ‘home’ for their kids (they continue to maintain a mortgage), a substantial Nebraska Medicine costs not covered by insurance, and basic groceries.

The Abbotts have been sustained by everyone’s prayers and generosity through this painful, emotional, and scary time in their lives. This is a family that lives modestly and loves greatly. It would be with immense gratitude and appreciation that they would accept any support you may graciously provide. On behalf of the Abbotts, their extended family thanks you for your kind support. (This account is linked directly to the Abbott's accounts and they will receive funds directly.)

If you know anyone in or near Memphis who has local donations of household items or furnishings, please use the thank you note function in GoFundMe with the information and we will gladly help coordinate. Thank you from parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, and uncles! (Please feel free to share.)
