❤️ Abby's Affirming Surgery and Aftercare Fund ❤️

Donation protected
This fundraiser is for our friend Abby, a young trans woman from Jamaica who has recently made her home in Brooklyn.

Abby is an immigrant awaiting her asylum hearing here in New York, after her recent release from 6 months in ICE custody.  She arrived in the US after being denied asylum in Europe.   Her experiences of violence in Jamaica and the illegality of being trans there make it impossible for her to return to a liveable life.
Abby is in a very stressful situation without stable housing or work.  We have been helping to support her during this time while she is waiting to be called to court.

Abby's hope is to be able to undergo gender-affirming surgery before her hearing, which will increase her chances of receiving asylum to find safety from transmisogynist violence.  The unfortunate reality is that the state doubts the validity of trans people who are pre-operative and is more likely to deny her request if she is unable to get surgery.   This is why she was denied asylum once already. Denial of her asylum here can literally cost her her life.

We are fundraising for Abby to be able to receive surgery as soon as possible, before her hearing this winter.  Any funds remaining after the costs of surgery will be put towards her healing and comfort.

We recognize that immigrants come to the US seeking safety and the possibility of a life with dignity.  There are many barriers to actualizing this dream.  It is our collective responsibility to make her journey as gentle as possible after all of the violence she has faced.  We must support Black trans women while they are alive, here with us, in concrete and meaningful ways.   This is one opportunity to put these beliefs into action.

We, Arthur Katrina and Luna, are Abby's friends in Brooklyn, New York.  We met through our LGBT community that has ties around the world.  We support and look out for one another.  We empathize with Abby's situation as non-binary trans people, and we understand that Black women, trans women and immigrants face barriers to healthcare and safety that we are intent on using our collective power to transgress.  Funds raised will be used to pay for surgery at Abby's consultation appointment with her surgeon at the end of January.  Arthur K is withdrawing the funds we've raised together and paying expenses at the appointment.  Any remaining funds after paying the surgeon will be given directly to Abby to spend on food and other necessary items for recovery.

We ask that you please donate and share her fund with your friends.
