Hi, I am Abby Fox, a Spanish and Art teacher in Telluride, Colorado. Please read more about my teaching journey here.
About School:
I am currently in my first semester at Western State Colorado University, studying for a Master of Arts in Education and have already completed my first 6 credits ( I earned A's in both classes)! This coming May, I will complete my first year of studies, earning an Alternative Teaching License. At the end of my second year, May 2018, I will graduate with a Master of Arts in Education, with a teacher leadership empahsis and a Foreign Langauge Endorsement. I currently hold a BA in Spanish and BFA in Printmaking from Colorado State University, and am thrilled to continue my education and model life-long-learning for my students.
About My Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching in Telluride, Colorado for over 6 years, starting with private Spanish courses for preschoolers, then expanding to teach Spanish circle time at three preschools in the area. After taking a summer to voluneer as a trekking guide in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, I moved on to work for Parents as Teachers, providing parent support and education, along with family activities to promote kindergarten readiness. This introduced me to Telluride's inspiring Latino population and I began teaching at Telluride Early Childhood Center, a dual-language preschool, as a homeroom Spanish teacher. After two years there I accepted an offer to teach Elementary Spanish at Telluride Mountain School, where I am in my second year teaching Kindergarten thru 6th grade Spanish and Kindergarten thru 2nd grade art.
About the Money:
I have applied for numerous scholarships and, to be blunt, have not recieved any. I currently teach full time, babysit and tutor when time allows (I spend a lot of time on homework), and will lead Spanish classes and camps throughout the summer to help cover costs. Unfortunately, this is not enough.
Tuition for the 2016/2017 school year is $11,750.
Tuition for the 2017/2018 school year will be $6,160.
Asking for help:
I am willing to work hard for for my education, but I am also willing to ask for help.
