Help Youth Fall In Love with Learning Armenian

ABC Gabig / ԱԲԳ Կապիկ is a one of a kind online learning platform that will make the Armenian youth fall in love with learning Armenian!

Gabig / Կապիկ means Monkey in Armenian, and in the Armenian diaspora, many parents call their children “Gabig”. ABC Gabig will provide a unique learning experience for its Gabigs, or students.

 

ABC Gabig is a website providing a tailored experience to all its Gabigs. Kids ages 3-14 will be able to learn the Armenian language (reading, writing, and speaking), history, culture (music and dance), and more. ABC Gabig is the first online platform that encompasses all aspects of Armenian learning. Our goal is to modernize the established Armenian curriculum by making it fun, kid-friendly, and adapted to an online world. In addition, ABC Gabig will be individualized to each person's pace in learning. Our Gabigs will be transported into their own mini Armenia in the ABC Gabig world, where they will be learning without even realizing — through our curriculum’s many fun games, activities, and interactive lessons. ABC Gabig will be the one stop shop for both new and advanced Armenian students to be inspired by all things Armenian.

ABC Gabig was created by two very proud Armenian college students who are passionate about Armenian education, preserving the Armenian culture, and their Armenian community.

Christina Chiranian is the Co-Founder and the Lead Curriculum Developer of ABC Gabig.

She is currently a junior at UC Irvine, majoring in Social Policy and Public Service (with a focus in Education Policy) as well as double minoring in Armenian Studies and Education, and is on track to graduating a year early.

Christina's future plans include being an Armenian teacher, getting a PhD whilst doing research on an Armenian topic, and being an advocate for the Armenian cause.

Narek Daduryan is the Co-Founder and Lead Programmer of ABC Gabig.

He is currently a junior at UCLA, majoring in Computer Science.

Narek's future plans include being a software developer and working for a company or project that makes an impact on the world, as well as continuing to develop programs that help the Armenian community. 

We are surrounded by many kids in our families and spend a lot of time volunteering in the Armenian community; therefore, we see first-hand how Armenian children today are struggling to fall in love with the Armenian language, culture, and history, and are unable to stay engaged in their Armenian classes at school. We also noticed that many kids today only care about playing video games on their phones and computers. All of this was very upsetting to see; therefore, for the past year and a half, we have been working on the solution: ABC Gabig.

 

Our mission with this website is to finally fill the void in Armenian education, by creating a modern curriculum that teaches a well-rounded Armenian education through an online platform. That way, kids will be able to play fun games on their computers or phones, all while learning Armenian and being immersed in a virtual Armenian environment.

 

We want to help Armenian kids fall in love with learning the Armenian language, history, and culture again. We know that our various games, lessons, and activities will do that, as we have completely transformed the Armenian curriculum and have made it interesting and fun for kids.

 

We want to help modernize the outdated Armenian curriculum so that parents and teachers alike can adopt this program and use it to raise the next generation of “hayrenaser” Armenian youth.

 

As of right now, our website will only be teaching in Western Armenian, as it is an endangered language and common across the diaspora. The website will be in English and Western Armenian. However, after our initial release, we hope to also teach Eastern Armenian, as well as translate the entire website to other languages, like French and Greek as well.

 

This website is something that will continue to evolve every year. ABC Gabig will be a subscription service, as we hope to continually support the game by releasing yearly updates with new games, new lessons, new subjects, and new ways to engage the youth. We will be dedicating our lives to this project, because we see how vital it will be to the protection and effectiveness of Armenian education.

 

We know that there is nothing like what we are developing out on the market, and we know that this program is what the Armenian community and Armenian education system worldwide has been missing. However, in order to finish developing our website and be able to gift this to the Armenian community, we need the support of the Armenian community. For the past year and a half we have been completely funding the development of this website on our own. However, as two students, self funding is getting very difficult and slowing down the development of the website. Therefore, we need the Armenian community’s help so that we can have this website ready for everyone in the next year or two! Please help us, so that we can help you!

 

We need funding so that we can pay for graphic designers who are working incredibly hard to create illustrations for the entire website - from background images, to characters, to game animations. We are estimating that this will cost $20,000 until the initial release.

 

We also need funding for our web servers. This is what will allow us to release the website and all the services along with it to the public. This will cost us around $10,000 for two years of service.

 

We also have miscellaneous expenses, such as company fees and taxes, domain registration, advertising, etc.

 

In total we need $35,000 to help finish up this website. We know how strong our Armenian community is, and we know how important the advancement of Armenian education is to them.
