Abe Neufeld Fundraiser

Donation protected
We are reaching out to family, friends and the community around Abe & Ana Neufeld for some help. On September 19, 2022 at 6:30am, Abe suffered a Massive Ischemic Stroke on the right side of his brain.

We do not know if Abe will be returning to work in the future. Ana is off work to support Abe. By contributing to this fund, we hope to relieve some financial stress for this family.

Please read more about Abe's journey:

Day 1, the doctors had to perform a right-side craniectomy on the same day to allow for brain swelling. Abe had an unusual reaction with his heart. His blood pressure and heart rate both plummeted, which caused more brain damage as brain tissue will die within 6 minutes without blood flow. The swelling was life-threatening and crossed over the midline of the brain, which caused the loss of swallowing and coughing. They had to place a feeding tube.

Still in the ICU, Abe was very sick, and the doctor discovered he had pneumonia. Abe's best hope was now intubation under sedation to help reduce the stress on his lungs and to get his oxygen levels up. Several days later, the family was told that Abe had to have the intubation removed, and it would require he receives a tracheostomy.

Day ten, Abe was still in the ICU, very sick. The ultra-sound revealed a blood clot in the lower left leg, DVT - deep vein thrombosis. They started him on a blood thinner (heparin) which caused a brain bleed, so they had to stop it. So the clot doesn't move, the IVC filter is placed to catch it if it does. The filter will need to be removed in the future.

On approximately day 14, Abe was moved to the Neurology floor, breathing on this own through the trach. He has developed a staph infection.

Today, day 22, he is still very sick. The future deficits are unknown, and only time will tell what life will look like for Abe. Ana was told there will be ongoing heart monitoring with a Holter monitor, EKGs and echos to diagnose and treat a heart condition. They will attempt to remove the trach with swallow tests. CT scans to monitor swelling and bleeding of the brain. If Abe can pass the swallow test, try to remove the feeding tube, but they may need to place an abdominal tube with surgery. Abe still has left-side paralysis, of which the future prognosis is unknown. His skull will need to be surgically replaced once the swelling subsides, which could be weeks or months.

We all appreciate anything you can give to help this family.
