My name is Abel Pineda and I am running for San Pablo City Council as an Appointed-Incumbent. As someone who was born and raised in San Pablo, I am proud to serve as the youngest Councilmember in our city’s history. When I was 15 years old, I lost my best friend to gang violence, but I was fortunate to have had people that mentored and empowered to use my lived experiences to shape and inform public policy. I have served this community and the public for over a decade, and am honored to have both created and supported spaces for people to have a voice in the decisions that impact them and their families.
Now approaching the end of my 2-year Appointment to the City Council, I have successfully authored and supported initiatives that attempt to meet the needs of our most vulnerable residents—that includes efforts to keep our residents healthy, safe, housed, working and thriving. These are challenging times and I want to help our community overcome this crisis. Some of my recent efforts include:
•Creating a $500,000 COVID-19 housing grant assistance program to help residents pay their rent, mortgage, and utilities
•Authoring the City of San Pablo’s Eviction and Rent Increase Moratorium
•Leading the effort for the adoption of a City of San Pablo Diversity Policy and membership in Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) Cohort.
•And, supporting initiatives that bring in revenue and opportunities important to our residents
My goal is to do everything in my power to lift up our community through progressive policies and action. I draw on my experiences working for the CA State Legislature and my current role for the State Department of Education. I hope to bring in fresh perspectives on issues that affect our residents. I would be honored to earn your support and serve our community for an additional 4 years.
I would greatly appreciate it if you are able to donate to my campaign, submit an endorsement, and/or share my information to your friends and family living in San Pablo. Thank you for your support. You can also contribute financially to my candidacy here or by sending a check to P.O. Box 6032, San Pablo, CA 94806. My committee is called Committee to Elect Abel Pineda to San Pablo Council 2020.
