A Bench for David
Donation protected
Calling all family, friends, former students, former co-workers, and those who’ve read and loved David Dick’s books!
We, David’s family, are reaching out to help elevate the legacy of our beloved husband, father, professor, friend to Kentucky and its peoples, author David Barrow Dick.
David's book, Rivers of Kentucky, is among the few Kentucky books chosen as the theme for the newest public-arts project in Lexington, entitled Book Benches: A Tribute to Kentucky Authors.
These beautifully hand-painted benches will be on display throughout Lexington from June until November when they will be auctioned to help fund literacy/literary programs in the Commonwealth. In addition to providing a fine place to sit, relax, and read a good book, you can rest awhile on the Rivers of Kentucky Bench and take pride in knowing that you’ve helped make this permanent place of peace possible.
We are already receiving contributions toward the $5,000 necessary to fund the bench, but we need your support as well to honor David's passion for literacy and learning. To accomplish this, we have created this Go Fund Me page where everyone whose lives David touched throughout his life and works has an opportunity to support this once-in-a-lifetime project! Any funds raised over the $5K will support the David Dick: What A Great Story! Storytelling Awards given each year at the University of Kentucky to deserving Kentucky storyteller journalism students and professionals.
The Go Fund Me page https://www.gofundme.com/abenchfordavid is available now through April 15, 2018.
Please share this with those in your network who also support literacy programs in our great state.
Every donation is precious, and will help make this beautiful bench a part of David's Kentucky literary legacy, and help keep Kentucky storytelling going strong!
The design by reknowned Kentucky artist, Sarah Spradlin, for the front and back of David's Rivers of Kentucky Bench!
An example of a completed book bench for another author's children's book.
