Donation protected
Eric John Bullock, age 55, passed away from a heart attack on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born January 22, 1961 in Greenfield, Iowa to Larry and Mary Bullock. Eric was survived by his two children, Caitlin (Justin) Christensen and Nate Bullock as well as his significant other, Judy Gonzales, and her children: Laurel, Rachel, and Christian Gonzales. Additionally, Eric was survived by his mother, Mary Bullock, and younger siblings: Tony (Wendy) Bullock, Lisa Bullock, Heather (Robert) Bullock, Will (Tatiana) Bullock, Sean Bullock, and Meagan (A.J.) Bullock-Johnson.
Eric attended Northwest Missouri State where he majored in Journalism and English and minored in History. Eric ran cross country and track while attending Northwest. Later in life, he attended Iowa Central Community College where he received an education in Computer Networking. Eric was employed in Security Administration Information Technology for Unity Point.
Eric loved the outdoors. He enjoyed running, lifting weights, riding his bike, and was recently training for RAGBRAI. He had a great appreciation for college football and basketball, B Movies, and both cult and underrated comedies. He was an avid reader and was fond of discussing politics, science, history, and any book he was currently reading. He always savored a good craft beer and loved grilling for his friends and family. Eric was a man that could easily quote Monty Python, and in the same sentence, discuss military history. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Eric expressed to his friends and family that he wished to donate his body to science when he passed. In lieu of a funeral and burial service, we will be having a memorial celebration in honor of Eric's life on August 6, 2016 at Exile Brewery from 7:00PM until 9:00PM.
Donations may be made for a memorial bench to be placed along a bike path in memory of Eric and his love for the great outdoors. We intend to engrave the bench with a quote from one of Eric's favorite authors. We will provide information on the location of the bench for those who wish to see it in person and spend a moment remembering Eric.
