Around February 5th Abe was experiencing flu like symptoms and running a 105 degree temperature.  Andrew brought him to the ER and they sent him home with  antibiotics.  By Sunday he was back in the hospital for an extremely high temperature again and pain along with flu like symptoms.  Abe had become septic so they ran a bunch of tests and ultrasounds and found his diverticulitis had caused holes in his intestines and decided to keep him there for almost a week while they debated on surgery or if with medication it would heal on its own.
After a week in the hospital, they sent him home.  He started feeling better and trying to get strength back, however had lots of pain in his legs.
On Friday, February 26th, his brother took him to the doctor and they found blood clots in his legs that were effecting his lungs.  The doctor called an ambulance and rushed him back to hospital.  They were going over surgical and non-surgical options including putting in a stint.
After running blood tests they found he had extremely low platelets, then they decided to run a marrow test because low platelets did not make sense with the blood clots.
On the evening of 2/29, the doctor informed him that he has Leukemia.  His Mom, son Andrew (18), Daughter Autumn (14), and daughterBella (12) were by his side when he received the news.

They think they caught it fairly early, and will begin and aggressive plan of Induction Chemotherapy tonight at 10pm.  Induction Chemotherapy is usually done over four to six weeks.  It will destroy most, if not all of his cells before he will go into remission, will get his blood cell counts hopefully back to normal.  Each cycle consists of seven days.  Each treatment will be given to him at 10pm, and the bag will last approximately 24 hours. After his first or second cycle, they will do another bone marrow to see where he is at.
With all of his difficulties and health issues, they are going to keep him for the duration of chemo therapy and rehabilitation.  With his current infection already, chemotherapy will also make him prone to more infection, therefore they are going to monitor him very closely.

Due to the unexpected circumstances this past month and the most recent news, Abe and his children need your help. Between medical bills piling up and the everyday financial responsibilities, (ie. groceries, rent, utilities, school, etc...) Abe needs to know we are here for him and not worry about everyday needs.  As a single father raising three children on his own, he has his worries.  Andrew, Abe's oldest child wants to pick up hours to help as much as possible. (Amazing for an 18 year old senior in high school, right?) Andrew, Autumn, and Bella have been at the hospital every night after school and on weekends.  We think they need to be able to continue to be present for their dad. Abe’s parents (Terry and Diana) and Abe’s brother and family have been doing everything they can to take help out with the kiddos, be there to support Abe and also maintain their jobs.  There is a very long road ahead for Abe and his kids.  Please consider supporting them in any way possible. A monetary donation would be a God send! However, we understand not everyone is not able to do that. There are other ways to help too. We are setting up a schedule for meals (see Facebook page below) for the kids on the weekends. And of course, PRAYERS! As we all know, prayers are extremely powerful.
