Protect – Repair – Regenerate

Abertillery Park for the Local Community

Abertillery Blaenau Gwent Rugby Club have taken the bold step of taking
ownership of the playing fields and grandstand at Abertillery Park from the
Local authority . We are now looking for your help to help protect, repair and regenerate the area and facilities for all the community.

Due to recent years of austerity Blaenau Gwent County Borough cannot
continue to maintain the Park, this would have meant Rugby at Abertillery Park
could have been lost forever!!

Unfortunately the park and the facilities has suffered from a lack of investment,
vandalism, anti-social behaviour and care over recent years. This will require a
substantial amount of investment and hard work to protect, repair and restore.

Undoubtedly if left unoccupied and untended the facilities at the park would
continue to be subjected to vandalism and anti-social behaviour and this would
severely impact the surrounding area and the community.

Fortunately a team of local volunteers have joined forces with
Abertillery BG RFC  to help save rugby at the park and ensure the parks facilities and public areas are restored for all. The team are planning to raise enough
money to

·       Improve the level of CCTV and fencing to deter the amount of vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

·       Refurbish the changing rooms, showers, toilets and first aid room all of which need urgent attention.

·       Repair the external areas around the ground and grandstand to help enhance the local environment for all the community to enjoy.

·       Convert underneath the stand into a community multifunctional area for all
age groups complete with Bar and Kitchen facilities, this facility will also be
available for any other local community groups to use.

·       Our aim is to provide a sustainable, vibrant and friendly community facility at the heart of Abertillery, where all the community can connect and  all are made
welcome.

History

The Park is renowned throughout the Rugby world for being one of the most
picturesque settings to play rugby, we are very fortunate to have such a rich
history and Rugby plays a very important part of the heritage of the town.

Rugby at the park was first played back in 1890’s, the venue is also one of very
few that have welcomed New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and Japan over the years.

Community Rugby

Abertillery BG are one of the oldest clubs in Wales, Blaenau Gwent founded in
1869 and Abertillery in 1883. The club have provided mini,  junior and
youth teams for many generations.

We are the only club in the area that provides rugby for minis, juniors and youth (7’s -19’S) and this has been and continues to be a key factor in the survival of
rugby in the area. With your help we can ensure we have a community clubhouse and facilities for all to enjoy.

Community Park

The Park is very popular with walkers, cyclists and dog walkers of all ages and we aim to create a facility that provides a safe and friendly environment,  hopefully all the community can continue to enjoy activities at the park for many years to
come.

We have been hard at work fundraising money towards the project but still have a significant funding shortfall, we are now ready to start work at the Park
and now need your help to ensure the project is a success.

We need your help !!!!

Please give generously to help us rebuild the park and support the local
community,  lets protect the park and club together.

Thanks for your support
