STOP HAMILTON'S ENCAMPMENTS
Donation protected
Friends, Neighbors and Community Members,
We Need Your Help: We are seeking professional legal advice regarding action against the City of Hamilton associated with, but not limited to possible Class Action regarding management Encampments, sanctioned or otherwise and a potential injunction for the temporary outdoor shelter.
We aim to raise $15,000
We are reaching out for support to hold the City of Hamilton accountable for thoughtful, sustainable solutions for the unhoused that balance the needs of ALL residents. A decision has been made to establish a low-barrier, high-acuity sanctioned encampment in a residential neighborhood on the contaminated Barton/Tiffany lands. Even if you don’t live nearby, your contribution can demonstrate SOLIDARITY with the impacted community.
The low barrier model accommodates drug use, couples and pets; it also eliminates typical shelter restrictions such as curfews. We understand the urgency to address homelessness and support vulnerable populations yet firmly believe this specific location is not suitable for such an encampment.
Residents are deeply concerned about the safety, health, and well-being of families, children, seniors and businesses. A low-barrier, high-acuity environment risks exacerbating challenges like: violence, crime, substance abuse, mental health crises. Its proximity to schools, parks and homes raises significant public safety concerns.
Unfortunately, this decision was made without community consultation. The City of Hamilton, including Mayor Horwath, the Ward 2 Councillor Cameron Kroetsch and Ward 1 Councillor, Maureen Wilson and city staff refused to attend a citizen run meeting or hold their own to address our concerns.
What’s at Stake: Without funding, the encampments may continue to affect Hamilton communities, potentially becoming permanent fixtures with detrimental impacts. Your donation will enable us to pursue legal options available to the citizens of Hamilton. If we do not raise enough funds to begin the process; your donation will be returned (less the admin fees)
