Ironman World Championship Journey

Donation protected
My name is Johanna O’Regan, a St Neots (Cambridgeshire) based parent to 3 amazing children, Wife to a supportive Husband, and an Athlete with big goals for the year ahead.

Having had a successful running career, some of which included a 5th Place Finish at London Marathon, a 3rd Place Finish at Manchester, 2nd Place Finish at Edinburgh and most of which was post Motherhood, I have moved my endurance capability into the world of Long Course Triathlon, namely the world famous arena of www.ironman.com

After multiple running injuries I took on this multidiscipline approach and am very thankful to be happier, healthier, and injury free at 40 years young!

Ironman long distance triathlon comprises a 2.4 miles swim, 112 miles bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon run.

Last year 2022 I took my new passion to my first Ironman event, finding myself picking up 8th Female from large field of competitors earning a world championship slot. Still new to the sport, this was a reassuring sign that with some additional skills training across all three disciplines I have the opportunity to make my mark on the sport and the world stage.

My goal this year was to race Ironman again and qualify and compete at the world championships in Kona, Hawaii in October.

I successfully secured my slot at Ironman Austria on June 18th and have accepted my slot to compete. This was not without its challenges and having passed up the opportunity last year I am excited to compete at Kona this year.

My journey is to encourage the future generations to be active, engage in sport and strive for success, while having fun. As a 40-year-old female in sport, my passion also drives towards female participation in sport and more specifically endurance sports and long-distance triathlon. Even as we enter 2023, and the advancement across all sports, female participation is still very low, the longer the race the fewer the women. Within Ironman as a full long distance triathlon women make up just 21% of the field.

With the aim to compete as a strong and healthy athlete at the world championships this year in Kona, Hawaii and next year in Nice, France, it would be great to have your support and you join me on the journey.

The costs involved are extensive and all donations towards, kit, travel, nutrition, races, equipment, accommodation are hugely appreciated

Thank you for taking the time to read a little more about me and my year ahead.
