Aboriginal X First Nations Cultural Exchange

Kaya (Hello), my name is Derek Nannup & I am a proud Whadjuk, Yued, Ballardong, Wardarndi, Wilman and Bindjareb Noongar, from the southwest of Western Australia.

Last year I was invited to attend the Manito Ahbee Festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada), as an Indigenous youth representative to engage in cultural connection, as well as having discussions and knowledge-sharing related to Indigenous suicide prevention and wellbeing.

The experience was not only powerful, but insightful as well. I believe that the global Indigenous community can learn a lot from one another and help each other navigate life through cultural expression, to empower our social and emotional wellbeing as Indigenous people.

Because of the connections, mutual cultural respect and knowledge shared last year, event coordinators have extended an invite to me and my dance group to attend and continue this Indigenous/First Nations alliance.

In order to make this journey a reality, we are in need of financial assistance to cover the costs of flights and accommodation for our group members. Your generous contributions will directly support our travel expenses and enable us to participate in this culturally enriching event.
