The Gift of Abortion Access

Join the Medical Students for Choice chapters of New York State in supporting the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine (ACT), an organization that is keeping abortion accessible in all 50 states, regardless of zip code.

Since June 2022, 21 states have banned or restricted abortion earlier than the standard set by Roe v. Wade. Despite this, abortion is still available in all 50 states.

How? Medication abortion, via telemedicine.

Even before the fall of Roe, medication abortions accounted for more than half of all U.S. abortions. Now, this essential health care is more crucial than ever. In 2023, six U.S. states passed shield laws to protect telemedicine abortion providers, enabling them to send thousands of medication abortion pills across state lines each month.

ACT and MSFC NYC are at the forefront of this resistance movement.

In its first year of existence, ACT has succeeded in making telemedicine abortion available nationwide: it has led the charge to pass transformative shield laws, including the one in New York, and enabled providers to set up telemedicine abortion practices, all while combatting abortion misinformation and stigma.

Now, they need our help. ACT-affiliated clinicians provide some of the lowest-cost abortion care nationwide, offering medication abortions via telemedicine for around $150. Yet, up to 50% of those requesting pills each month cannot afford even this reduced price -- meaning that abortion access remains out of reach for some of the most marginalized and isolated patients in the U.S.

Our donations can help address these access disparities.

As the first grassroots fundraiser for ACT, our donations will go toward its forthcoming provider support fund, which will allow clinicians to offer more medication abortions for free and reduced prices each month. Every $150 we raise covers the cost of one person's medication abortion -- and gets us that much closer to achieving reproductive health equity.
