Zach’s Road To Recovery
Donation protected
On Thursday morning, October 12th, Zach experienced 5 seizures in the span of a an hour and a half. He briefly lost oxygen during the 4th seizure as paramedics were trying to get him safely out of the house and into the ambulance. He was put into sedation on a ventilator in the ICU as a result. After 5 days of stabilizing in the ICU and a diagnosis of right temporal seizure disorder and mesial temporal sclerosis, he was moved to the general floor of the hospital. On day 8, it was decided that he should be discharged as his body was recovering well, but the hospital environment was not supportive of his mental recovery.
He will be needing long-term recovery for his short term memory, as the seizure epicenter in his hippocampus (shown via MRI and CT scans), along with the sedatives, pain medications, a minor bout of pneumonia due to aspiration, and lack of sleep have hampered the healing of this brain injury.
Zach, with the support of his fiancé, Bridget, will be navigating the next few weeks (or months - there is no clear timeline for his recovery) with the sole focus to be rest and healing for his brain. After a follow up appointment with his neurologist on Monday, October 23rd, it was ordered that due to his ongoing memory issues and recovery, he will not be able to drive or work for the time being. There will be another follow up in two weeks to assess progress, and another in three months to revisit the topic of driving and work.
As Zach will need to focus solely on healing and Bridget will be his immediate support, they come to you for support financially. The ambulance bill has arrived and they are still waiting to see what the final bill from the ICU will be, along with regular bills rolling in for November. Any support will be going toward monthly bills, the ambulance and medical bills, and supporting Zach while he figures out a new normal.
