Abracadabra Trip Global Music Relief
Donation protected
The Abracadabra Trip is a music and art project created by Laura Newman & Tycho Dan to bring joy, freedom, and unity into the world. We recently took our traveling bus concerts across Europe, bringing the healing power of music to Lviv, Ukraine and refugee camps along the Poland-Ukraine border. The response was incredible, and the results transformative, so we have decided to expand our mission: we will bring our second-tier disaster and trauma relief efforts to wherever they're needed in the world. In November, we are headed to Florida, where families are slowly processing the devastating effects of Hurricane Ian.
After 12-foot storm surges and winds near 150 miles per hour in places like Fort Meyers Beach, tens of thousands of people remain displaced in SW Florida with ~10,000 still living in shelters. Our experiences on the ground from NYC to Lviv show us what many of us know in our hearts: music and art hold therapeutic value for addressing trauma. Science is beginning to demonstrate this truth in randomized controlled trials and other studies.
During our European tour, we worked with and employed a global team of musicians, production staff, circus performers, and filmmakers, many of whom live in Ukraine. Artists may suffer immensely due to direct and/or indirect consequences of conflict or disaster, including trauma and personal loss, the closure of art spaces, and the cancellation of events. Now we are bringing our global team to Florida, where we plan to offer paid opportunities to local artists and team members.
We are aiming to fund our tour expenses, with an emphasis on compensating artists and team members for their time and expenses. We will post updates here, and you can also follow our journey on Instagram: @abracadabratrip.
