Abstract Farm
We’re official!  Our local farmers’ market starts next week and though we won’t have anything quite ready to sell, we have our official Kentucky farmers’ market vendor stamps.

Abstract farm is the culmination of a two-year publicly funded project ranging from biodiversity and ecology, seed selection and saving, to making our own heirloom and landrace vegetables building a no-dig market garden.

This farm/market garden also stems from my desire to feed this community nutrient-dense organic produce that is hard to come by at Walmart and the Dollar Store.  It also stems from my desire for my mother not to work in a factory ever again.

Abstract Farms is that endeavor. My mom and I started out first 120sq feet with with the money raised from this fundraiser and we will be selling tomatoes, cucumber, summer and winter squash, melons, herbs, hot peppers and hopefully (!) husk cherries and passion fruit. We’ll also be selling ferments as the season goes on at the Lawrence County Farmers’ Market three days a week as soon as we’re ready this month. I also plan sell tomatoes on the side of the road, doing my ancestors proud.

We are asking for this money to help with supplies like paper bags and pint containers other packaging and signage, compost and manure, seeds and at the higher end of the goal range would allow us to find more land to rent for vegetable gardens. I will grow a larger variety of things, mainly greens and more herbs and perennials the more space I can use.  I wanted to be ambitious with this goal because of the mind boggling generosity of my last fundraiser.  I’m forever grateful to everyone who donated, it gave a chance for my mom and I to start something in an otherwise depressed neck of the woods - no jobs, no activities. I’ll be forever grateful to anyone who donates or forwards this to allow us to keep going until we start getting an income from selling vegetables.

Abstract Farm uses organic  (not certified) and no till practices with an eye towards soil regeneration and the protection and creation of insect habitat.
