Acadia Recreation Program Legacy Initiative
Donation protected
The Acadia University Recreation degree program started in 1969, along with Physical Education, and was replaced with a Bachelor of Community Development in 2012. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the program and the Society of Acadia University Recreation Graduates (SAURG) plans to commemorate the milestone with 2 initiatives: 1) publication, in electronic format, of a detailed illustrated history of the 43 years of Acadia Recreation, covering the program, the people, the impact, and the many ways in which the degree was a unique, innovative, and significant; and 2) the creation of a colourful and informative interpretive sign to be placed in front of the Old Gymnasium building, which housed the program all those years, that will serve as a reminder that "we were here" and noting some of the milestones of the 43 years.
