Acanthamoeba Keratitis
Donation protected
Sharon, a veteran and mother of two sons, was recently diagnosed with Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK). This is a rare, serious infection of the eye that can result in permanent visual impairment, blindness, or eye loss. She is in severe pain, currently unable to see out of her right eye, does not have health insurance, and the condition is so debilitating (including eye drops every hour, around the clock, alarms/little sleep), resulting in the inability to work and function.
As she works with specialists and is driven 2 hours one way (every other day)...all they can say is they are not able to address her vision at this point because they are just trying to save her eye. Treatment could take months and could result in the need for a multiple cornea transplants (the first one already completed!)
In her 40’s, Sharon has way too much life to live, with three degrees and a military background; yet she feels helplessly defeated as the medical and life expenses mount. If we can take the stress of this financial burden away, the hope is her energy can be positively placed on healing.
The pain experienced constantly from the AK in her eye is way more than anyone should have to feel...let’s take the pain of not knowing how to make ends meet away so Sharon can “see” how much she is loved in this world by those who contribute to making this long road ahead a little less difficult for her to navigate!
