Hi :)
I'm Alex (22) I am keen Skier and this is my Journey,
At the age of 2 I was diagnosed with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy and was told I would never walk,
At the age of 6 I learnt to walk,
At the age of 14 I learnt to ride a bicycle,
I am determined and love a challenge,
In December 2012 I was introduced to Skiing through some friends at University,
At first, I struggled, (January 2013)
But with support from friends and family, Hardwork and a bucket full of stubborness, I started to get the hang of it, (March 2014)
Skiing gives me a sense of freedom and enjoyment that I have never experienced before and can't get anywhere else.
In May 2014 I attended a talent spotting day with Disabled Snowsports UK (the UK Skiers Charity). Where I was filmed skiing and the footage was sent to the British Disabled Ski Team to see if there were any more opportunities to get involved.
A few weeks later I recieved an email from the team, offering me the chance to train with them in August in Austria and compete in my first race in Landgraaf in November.
With more races to come.
This is a fantastic opportunity and a dream for me.
My aim:
To be in the Winter Paralympics
But in order for this to happen, I need funding.
I am already investing as much money/time as I can into doing this.
I am training 4-5 times a week in strength and conditioning to maximise my performance on the slope.
I have the determination and the drive for this but I don't have the financial backing,
So thats why I have this page :)
Starting in November there is atleast one race every month in a different country. I need to attend every one of these to even have a chance to be picked to race at a higher level.
But before I can even race I need,
To attend the training camp in Austria
Two Sets of Racing Ski's (Slalom & Giant Slalom)
A Racing Suit
Gloves, racing helmet, shinguards
A ton of lessons
As much time on the snow as possible
As you can guess, this is not cheap.
So I am asking you, if you can spare a pound to help my dream come true, please do!
Any amount would be greatly recieved,
Much Love
Alex Clarke
