Accessible home studio for blind musician
Donation protected
EVERYONE WHO HELPS ME OUT WITH $5 OR MORE WILL GET A FREE COPY OF MY SECOND ALBUM IF YOU WANT IT!
Hi! Thanks for stopping by!
My name is Cameron Strife. I am a totally blind multi instrumentalist. I hold a BA in music with a concentration in studio production, am a member of ASCAP, am a guitar teacher, and have taught for two schools as well as worked at a commercial studio in the past.
With recent advancements in hardware and software accessibility it's possible for a totally blind person to have a professional quality home studio that they can use independently. Unfortunately this sort of setup requires specific pieces of hardware and software as well as a computer with certain specs. I do have some older equipment so while I'm not starting this from scratch, there are some major components missing.
I don't qualify for a bank loan and have not been able to find any grants etc that would cover this sort of thing because while it is accessible for the blind, it is not considered adaptive technology like a Braille display would be for example.
Being able to use up to date industry standard daws, plug ins, and instrument libraries etc is essential if you want to have a shot at standing out especially when it comes to composing music for various types of media. Simply selling or streaming your music won't even pay your electric bill these days for the majority of music makers. Commercial recording studios are few and far between and the ones that are around are not interested in hiring a blind person. (I know this from personal experience.) Since I mostly create instrumental music, I am interested in writing music to license for commercials, tv shows, and eventually film but at present, I don't have the necessary tools to produce material at the level expected/required. Producing music to license for use in commercials, podcasts, apps, and tv etc is something I could do from home and deliver electronicly. Scoring a film is a different story but in that case, I could work with the director for example and map out what they need. I would love to score a film someday but I'm getting ahead of myself!
Having this setup would also give me the tools to produce higher quality material for my solo releases. The more I can do myself, the less I have to hire others.
This is what I plan to purchase and I've already found a dealer that has everything I need in stock.
Mackie Control Pro control surface
Waves Diamond bundle plug in package
pro quality headphones
Avid Pro Tools with 1-Year of Updates + Support Plan Perpetual License
Native Instruments Komplete 13 Ultimate Collector's Edition Software Production Suite
Apple iMac with I9 processor, 32gb ram, and 1tb ssd, or, a MacBook pro with I9 processor, 1tb ssd, and 32gb ram.
I could make that list much longer but those are the "needs" instead of the longer list of "wants" which would be nice but would not be necessary at this point in time.
If I can get enough people to support this endeavor, maybe I can at least begin to assemble this. Even just a few dollars would help and every person who donates $5 or more will receive a digital copy of my second solo album "To the outside world"! (I'll send a download link to the e-mail address you provide.)
If you could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated! Be sure to share this on social media as well as with family and friends etc!
