House fire. Insurance deemed invalid.

Hi my name is Sarah. I am trying to raise funds to help my 14-year-old stepdaughter.

In the early hours of the morning of Wednesday 6th September, the fire brigade were called to extinguish an accidental fire in Wallasey, Wirral.

Thankfully everyone got out alive. However, the resulting fire destroyed my stepdaughter’s attic bedroom, damaged the roof, upstairs landing and affected two rooms below, (from fire hose water and smoke) plus electricity supply throughout from melted wiring.

She now has nothing but ashes for belongings, she has lost everything but the clothes she slept in - no school uniform, nothing, it was all destroyed.

The insurance company are refusing to pay the policy holder as someone in the house had previously got an IVA (to manage debt). A technicality in the policy, not known to, so not declared by the policy holder, but enough for the insurer to void the entire policy.

The house has smoke damage, some lights are off still, sockets off in parts and sharp debris. There are damp areas from extinguishing the fire. There is a full hole in the roof where the bedroom window was and they are traumatised. More so to then find the insurance is void.

They’ve appealed. Still refused. They find themselves lucky and thankful to be alive, but in desperate need of help.

The policy holder has since had a stroke – may or may not be related to the stress.
