Student Midwives to Africa

Hi,  

We are Amelia and Charlotte and we are currently second year Student Midwives studying in East Sussex.

During our final year of study we have the opportunity to visit Tanzania in Africa for two weeks in October 2017; where we will provide midwifery care to the community in a city called Arusha. Whilst in Arusha we will spend time at the city hospital where around 30 babies are born every day. We will have the chance to spend time on the antenatal, postnatal and labour wards and also in theatre for surgeries.

During the trip we will have the opportunity to visit a remote village to spend time with the Maasai tribe.

The experience to be gained as a student Midwife visiting a country like Tanzania is life changing. The trip provides an opportunity to help those in need in a developing country whilst also gaining new skills, learning about the Tanzanian culture and seeing how the hospital utilises the little resources that they have available to them.  Furthermore we will  then return to our own town with new, unique skills and experiences to use in our ever growing multi-cultural society.

Whilst we are going to make every effort to fundraise to cover the costs, we are also aware that the trip is very expensive - This is where you could help!!!Even the smallest of donations can help to get us there! 

We already have a 5k obstacle colour run planned for May and we will be doing lots of stuff from now until we leave!

We are also in the process of designing a limited edition pizza for an established pizza chain - with a % from each one sold being donated to us.

A breakdown of the cost includes;

£300 - Work the World registration fee x 2
£1240 – 2 weeks in Tanzania x 2 (Accommodation, food etc)
£140 - Vaccinations x 2 (Yellow Fever, Cholera, Meningitis)
£50 - Visa x 2

£3460 – Total cost for 2 people

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and without your help it will be impossible.
