On June 9th, 2017 my boyfriend John was walking our dogs like any other day until a gun fight broke out across the street after an altercation between a tow truck drive, the girl whose vehicle was being towed and her boyfriend. By the end of the shooting battle 19 shots had been fired, two of which hitting my dog who was across the street hiding behind a car with my boyfriend and other dog. We instantly rushed him to Penn Vet Emergency Hospital where he received emergency surgery to repair both left legs. He was shot twice, one in the back left room and once in the front left arm. Contrary to what many news stations say (minus philly.com who actually spoke with us and had an accurate store) everyone said our dog had passed away. I am thrilled to say our baby is still with us! Only 11 months old and weighing in at a whopping 120 pounds, Ace, our Saint Berdoodle puppy is a true survivor after being shot twice. As of June 10th around 10am we spoken with the doctor and he was already up walking aroundm and even eating a little food. Our Goldendoodle Callie was also injured during the event. Not from a bullet, but she has a large cut on her foot and maybe a fractured toe. The injury probably accrued while they were hiding from the bullets or running away from the scene. Even though we are so unbelievably blessed that both of our dogs are still alive the vet bills from rushing them to Penn Vet and Ace’s emergency surgery are already over $7,800 and will continue to go up since Ace will need another surgery on the his foot that was hit by the bullet. Even with pet insurance sadly it does not cover everything and with another surgery required in the future we are unsure how we are going to afford this surgery and the next. I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask for help when were down. Any help is greatly appreciated so we can get our “little” guy back to his normal self!
