Achik's Healing Journey
Donation protected
On March 28, 2021, the family of Achik (A-cheek) Duot received unexpected and devastating news that Achik was involved in a terrible accident stemming from the out-of-control high winds and wildfires in the Claresholm area. Achik is the loving wife of Pelek Garang and devoted mother of 4 young children. This shocking news has left Achik with very severe burns on many parts of her body. She has been in an induced coma since the time of the accident.
Besides being a loving and devoted wife and mother, Achik was also a committed nursing student at Lethbridge College. She was in practicum in Claresholm at the time of the accident and was looking forward to completing the program in June and graduating with a diploma in Practical Nursing.
Achik will remain in Intensive Care for some time, as her journey to recovery will involve several plastic surgeries. It will be a very long recovery process; however, the family is optimistic she will survive the ordeal. The accident has shattered family life and disrupted plans for their future. Achik’s husband, who was working in Fort McMurray at the time of the accident, immediately flew to Foothills Hospital in Calgary to be with Achik at this very difficult time. Pelek will remain at his wife’s side for the foreseeable future.
It is an extremely difficult time emotionally and financially for the family and they sincerely thank all well wishers for their continuous prayers and supports. Funds raised will be used to offset some of the costs incurred by the family during Achik's recovery.
